General - Warrington Hospital Radio is a registered charity and provides a
local broadcasting service to the patients in Warrington Hospital along with
promoting Health & Wellbeing to the population of Warrington and
surrounding areas.
The Record Request Service was started by the Warrington Council of Youth with
the first broadcast being made on 7th November 1957. The Rugby League
commentaries go back even further, with the first match commentary taking place
on 28th February 1953.
Having worked side by side for many years, the Warrington Rugby Commentators
Association and the Warrington Council of Youth’s Record Request Service
amalgamated in 1976 to form the present charity. Radio General is run entirely
by volunteers and is funded by donations from the public, the generosity of
local business, together with the fund-raising activities of its members.
Radio General broadcasts 2 services from The Keith Inman Studios located in the
main entrance, 24 hours a day throughout the year, to the patients in the
Warrington Hospital and online.
